  Early in pre-production meetings, the director made it clear that she did not want to depict "classical Greece," dressing the characters in flowing white chitons.  We discussed pushing the action back to a more ancient and primitive time.  Using an ancient Greek vase as a conceptual image, the costumes make use of rough, textured fabrics, pieced together, and natural elements such as raffia, jute, suede, wood, bone, leather, and stone to give them this primitive feel.
